Top 10 Tips For Hair Extensions: Styling And Care
Top 10 Tips For Hair Extensions: Styling & Care
There's nothing quite like a brand new set of hair extensions. The look of them, the feel of them and the smell of them (okay, maybe not the smell..) makes most of us girls go weak at the knees with excitement. However, a few months down the line your set may start to look a bit lacklustre and sorry for itself. Wouldn't it be nice to keep your new set of 100% Remy Human Hair Lush Hair Extensions looking as glossy and silky for as long as possible? These are my top tips for getting the most out of your hair extensions..

Keep your Lush Hair Extensions looking gorgeous with our top 10 tips!
Use high quality products to wash and style your hair extensions.
- We sell specially formultated shampoo and conditioner from Hairaisers for hair extensions which are gentle yet highly nourishing on the hair. Other good brands to use are TIGI or Matrix - Biolage which both use high quality ingredients.
- Try to select hair products free from Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) which tend to rapidly dry out the hair
- Use dry shampoo on your hair extensions between washes. If you're wearing your hair extensions every day you should aim to wash your extensions every week or so. Dry shampoo quickly and conveniently freshens up your extensions in the mean time.
Leave your extensions to air dry after washing.
- It's fine to gently blow dry them on a low temperature too however you hair shall look silkier and healthier if less heated styling appliances are used.
Try not to brush the hair when wet.
- Hair is at its most vulnerable to breakage and damage when wet so try to wait. When almost or full dry, use a wide tooth comb or Tangle Teezer to ease out any knots.
Oh so knotty! Tangle Teezer's leave your hair extensions knot-free
- This is a bit of a no-brainer but still needs to be said. You WILL experience some form of hair tangling or matting, particularly if left in after a night out. If you have been partying frantically you may even experience slight dreadlock syndrome. This has happened to me on one or two occasions where my own hair has seemingly fused to extensions in the morning. Not a good look.
- Do not work out in them or swim in them. They are clip-in, therefore not intended for constant/permanent wear.

- GHDs are 210 degrees and others can reach higher temperatures. Hair is human product and condition will start to deteriorate over time - once you have totally zapped the life out of the hair after lots of styling and processing it is hard to restore condition. Think about styling the your extensions without using heat. Heated hair rollers or letting hair dry in rollers over night produces amazing curls.
- Plait extensions overnight or when wet to achieve tousled waves.
- These all help protect from heat and leaves hair uber glossy after styling. You may also wish to use a shine spray such as TIGI Bed Head Head Rush superfine shine mist

- If the set isn't a perfect match, you can of course dye the hair yourself or, if you are due for a colour, ask your hairdresser to apply a bit more dye to the extensions. This shouldn't be more than £20 and some may even do this for free if you ask extra nicely. Your hairdresser can also trim the extensions/blend them in for you for a flawless and natural look when clipped in.
